World Television retains contract with European Space Agency

World Television, the leading video communications company for corporations and governments, is thrilled to announce it has successfully retained the contract to provide the European Space Agency (ESA) with broadcast media relations support for its main events. The contract is for three years and commenced on 1 January 2012.

World Television works in partnership with ESA to promote the importance of the Agency’s global role in the exploration and use of space. From distributing B-Roll footage and Video News Releases, to publicising missions to international broadcasters World Television’s solutions are bespoke and implemented in line with ESA’s overarching communications strategy. The company also built and now hosts and maintains one of ESA’s digital media platforms, available via http://www.esa.int and at http://video360.world-television.com/mediacorner/, which makes footage, high resolution images, press releases and other relevant information around the Agency’s missions accessible to journalists free of charge.

Eduardo Castaneda, Head of Media and Public Relations at World Television, says “We initially secured the contract for broadcast media relations in 2005 for three years and are absolutely delighted to have retained it. World Television’s Proprietary Webcasting Platform Celebrates 10th Anniversary
World Television, the leading video communications agency for corporations and governments, celebrates the 10th birthday of its market-leading webcasting platform this month. StreamStudio, World Television’s proprietary solution for end-to-end webcast production and distribution, was first pioneered in Switzerland in 2001 and has since delivered literally millions of audio and video streams to the company’s client base, securing its position as Europe’s foremost webcasting platform.

Based on browser technology, allowing for incomparable flexibility, StreamStudio supports the online video strategies of some of the world’s leading brands, governmental organisations and NGOs. It is robust and proven, able to support almost 30,000 live simultaneous users without compromising stream quality. It manages multiple languages (up to 23 currently but with capacity for many more), operating systems, bit-rates and browsers. Investment in the platform is on-going and in accordance with a rigorous development schedule, with upgraded versions of the platform released quarterly to ensure it keeps pace with technological advancements and remains cutting edge. Latest developments include mobile streaming support for top hand-held devices and social media integration.

Joffrey Haring, World Television’s Director of Technology and Operations, says “We have observed the demand for streaming solutions grow markedly over the past 10 years. Webcasting for investor relations is now commonplace, giving companies a swift and highly targeted channel for maintaining transparency. However, the real trend we’re seeing is the use of streaming media as a means of communicating with internal audiences. Contemporary IT networks can effortlessly handle online video and webcasting lends itself to targeted mass communications for employees and stakeholders, irrespective of geographical location.”

World Television celebrates international awards wins
World Television, the leading video communications agency for corporations and governments, would like to congratulate Anglo American on its recent wins at two prestigious international film festivals.

‘Welcome to Anglo American: Where Safety Means More’ has been awarded a Silver Plaque in the Special Achievement category for Direction at INTERCOM, the international communications media competition. Held in association with Chicago International Film Festival and founded in 1964, INTERCOM is one of the longest-running international contests of its kind. It recognises creativity in the non-theatrical dimensions of filmmaking and honours a wide range of corporate-sponsored, educational, branded and web-based films.

Early last week, Welcome to Anglo American also picked up a Silver Dolphin trophy at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards for Best Corporate CSR film. The event, now in its second year, was held on 13 October in the French film capital and welcomed over 400 productions from 207 countries worldwide.

Welcome to Anglo American was produced to help employees, contractors, visitors and the wider public understand the strength of the mining giant’s commitment to operating safely, sustainably and responsibly. The video takes the viewer on a narrative journey that demonstrates the comprehensiveness of Anglo American’s approach, and the truth of the title. It was rolled out across the organisation’s corporate offices and business units in March and is used as an induction tool. It also is available to external audiences via Anglo American’s corporate website.

‘We appreciate the opportunity Anglo American affords us to make great films!’ remarked Natalie Miles, Producer at World Television. ‘It was a challenge setting up a global shoot using real Anglo American employees but the end result, and these awards, make it all worthwhile – the film is even better than we had hoped it would be.’

World Television partners with Kontiki to enable network-friendly delivery of enterprise video
World Television, the leading video communications company for corporations and governments, has announced a partnership with enterprise video solutions provider Kontiki. In order to enhance its extensive technology infrastructure, World Television will be utilising Kontiki’s Enterprise Content Delivery Network (ECDN) to provide clients with a superior online viewing experience for high-quality corporate video.

Instead of investing in costly hardware to optimise delivery, World Television’s clients will now be able to utilise their existing IT network to channel video content without negatively impacting business-critical traffic. The patented cloud-based server infrastructure only requires one ‘copy’ of a video stream or file to cross each wide area network (WAN) so bandwidth, and therefore picture quality, remain unaffected.

Key benefits include:

  • Live and on-demand video delivered automatically and ready-to-play to desktops and mobile devices, like iPods and iPads, regardless of the end user’s geographic location or bandwidth capabilities
  • The ability to efficiently access libraries of pre-recorded material, such as training videos or financial results, that can be quickly cached to desktop
  • Corporate YouTube-style private streaming services

“Our clients demand a faultless viewing experience – it is futile commissioning high-quality video if the content buffers and renders it unwatchable. And we need to minimise the impact on bandwidth to comply with the requirements of their IT departments”, said Steve Garvey, CEO and Chairman at World Television. “Kontiki’s cloud solution was the logical choice because it delivers streams locally from a single source, thereby eliminating any negative impact on picture quality due to bandwidth limitations”.

“We are delighted to be partnering with World Television”, remarked Dan Vetras, President and CEO at Kontiki. “Using our ECDN cloud solution, businesses are free to embrace the power of enterprise video content to communicate and educate their workforces without being forced to make expensive and time-consuming changes to existing infrastructure”.

World Television Collects Awards’ Hat-Trick at US International Film and Video Festival

World Television, the leading video communications agency for corporations and governments, is delighted to have won two Silver Screen awards and a Certificate for Creative Excellence in this year’s US International Film and Video Festival.

We are Anglo American, a brand film produced as part of a larger campaign to launch the mining giant’s new corporate identity, picked up a Silver Screen trophy for ‘Music – Original Production’ and a Certificate for Creative Excellence in the Public Relations category. Built around a specially-composed soundtrack which weaves together voices of employees around the world, the film aims to reflect the company’s spirit and guiding values, as well as the diversity, scope and scale of its operations.

Better Lives, a corporate production for speciality biopharmaceutical company Shire, was awarded a Silver Screen award for Public Relations. Anglo American Takes the Prize for Global Internal Comms Campaign
World Television, the leading video communications company for corporations and governments, congratulates Anglo American on its award win at the prestigious Institute of Internal Communications Awards 2011.

Anglo American’s ‘Transportation Leadership Engagement Programme’ was up against strong competition from Aviva, The Lloyds Register Group and Roche in the Global Strategy category, for internal communications projects aimed at an international or multilingual audience.

The Engagement Programme is designed to raise awareness of the risks around transportation and facilitate a change in behaviour across the organisation. One of the key creative elements is a series of short films produced by World Television. Combining personal stories, graphics and live action footage, the films highlight the impact not taking transportation risks seriously can have.

Tim May, Executive Producer at World Television, said: “This is a piece of internal communication designed to make a real difference. Greater awareness of the risks around transportation can help save lives. We are delighted that the Safety & Sustainable Development Communications Team at Anglo American have received this well-deserved accolade.”

'Frontline Heroes’ Celebrated in New York
A new initiative to recognise leadership in rural community healthcare was launched at the 10th Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Awards Dinner, in New York this week. ‘Frontline Heroes for Health’ is a joint initiative between Anglo American, Virgin Unite and GBC Health to recognise individuals who make a real and positive difference in people’s lives by delivering life-changing health services where they are needed most.

The first recipients of the award, Dr Gilbert Khosa and Kgomotso Kwenje, manage the Bhubezi Community Healthcare Centre in South Africa’s Mpumalanga region – a model of integrated healthcare treating HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. They have dedicated their work and lives to providing better healthcare to impoverished rural communities, helping thousands of people who are struggling with these life-threatening conditions.

As part of the launch, leading video communications specialist World Television was commissioned to produce a three-minute film celebrating the award winners and highlighting the positive difference they are making within a community where professional medical services did not exist before Bhubezi was established in 2007. In order to tell their stories, World Television’s crew shot on-location over two days in Bushbuckridge, approximately four hours’ drive north-west of Pretoria. The film premiered as the Heroes took the stage to receive their accolades from Anglo American CEO Cynthia Carroll and Virgin founder Richard Branson. It can now be viewed on Anglo American’s website at www.angloamerican.com.

‘Frontline Heroes’ will become an annual award at future GBC galas. The event, which brings together over 1,000 business executives, policy makers, celebrities and thought leaders to discuss the global health agenda each year, was hosted 1-2 June at luxurious Manhattan venue Cipriani Wall Street.
